Humanitarian Services in India - Provide School Supplies for Children
Grant & Linda Elsby
In April 2008, the Bangalore 3rd Branch participated in a Service Project that put together School Supplies for children attending schools through Child Care India, an orphanage in Bangalore.
When the project started, it was intended for the Relief Society but by the time it was all finished, most of the Branch had participated in putting the school supplies into the 740 school bags. The YSA put the contents into the pencil boxes at one of their Family Home Evenings, and then on another day the Branch Members participated in putting the notebooks and pencil boxes into all the school bags. We then delivered the school bags to Child Care India and most of those who had participated in filling the bags went with us and they were able to speak with the children and went home very excited about having participated and are looking forward to another service project.

Child Care India began in a small room where they taught fifteen children. Today they are educating over 4,000 deprived children from off the streets and from the slums in Bangalore and in India over 15,000 children. The Bangalore 3rd Branch members were very excited to have been able to play a small role in helping with their education process.
